Trichome Extractor
We find trichome extraction to be very beneficial. Extraction purifies the end product, removing the undesirable leafy material. Trichomes, unlike raw marijuana, have a very mild flavour. Adding trichomes to food recipes is thus very easy.
We also use trichomes in gelatin capsules. For those days that eating is undesireable. ;(
On days that my appetite is strong, sprinkling trichomes in whatever sauce I'm having with dinner is very effective. Spaghetti sauce, Beef Gravy, Chicken Gravy, Hollandaise, Green Chile sauce. ;Þ
Another favourite of ours is hard candies and lollipops. Very discreet.
We found that commercially available extractors were considerably expensive. So decided to build our own.
I experimented with several designs, finally settling for this one. The motor is an inexpensive replacement bbq motor found at many hardware stores for approximately $20. ;)
The outer housing is a household storage container found for approximately $10.
I taught myself how to use a woodworking router and fashioned a "circle cutting jig". I used this jig to make the circular parts of the extractor from a sheet of 3/8 inch plywood. I then used a 1/2 inch hardwood dowel as the centre axle and four 7/16 inch hardwood dowels to secure the outer perimeter of the circular parts.
After experimenting with various sized silkscreens, we settled with 100 micron mesh. It produces a light yellow/white coloured powder. Larger sized mesh will produce a higher yield, but of lower quality with a greener colour.

How it works
Fully DRIED plant material is placed inside the extractor drum. Once the lid is fastened and the motor is plugged in, extraction begins.
When the plant material in the drum tumbles onto the silkscreen, the trichomes are forced through the tiny holes in the mesh. Useless plant material is left behind in the drum. Trichomes collect in the bottom of the container. We recycle the spent plant material, as it still contains some active ingredients, and use it in creams and lotions.
